Domestic Travels

Hope everyone has had a great week! So far, we have been on a journey of travel in general, as well as my current international travels. The next part of this journey will go through the domestic travels I have been on.

I grew up in Southern California. When traveling domestically, I am normally going to Louisiana, Oklahoma or Arkansas to visit family. In 2014, my family and I traveled to Orange Beach, AL to attend my Master’s Degree graduation ceremony. In that time, we went for lunch across the border of Florida. I want to do more travels to Florida in the future.

My domestic travels will coincide with my wife’s bucket list of going to every Triple D Restaurants and my bucket list of going to every state in the U.S.

The states that are taken off of the list, whether by travel or by living, are the following:
California, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.

When traveling to different states, or even in researching travel to different states, I always want to know what the best attractions are, as well as where the best restaurants are so I can better plan my vacation, if I do not have a plan put together for the vacation.

No matter what the travel plans are, I always look to have fun and be able to relax, unwind and forget about life as it is.

I will be doing a series of blogs on what to do in different areas, both domestically and internationally.

My Life of Travel

Hey all! Hope you all are doing well and your week has been off to a great start!

A lot of travel agents have traveled all over the world. Growing up, I was able to do a little bit of travel, thanks to my dad being in the Marine Corps! This blog will highlight the places I was able to visit, whether I remember the experience or not (because of age).

When I was 5 years old, I traveled to live in Okinawa, Japan for 1 year. I do not remember this particular part in life because I was too young. All I have is stories of the different caves we got to explore, as well as any other stories from my dad.

From ages 8-10, my family moved to Iceland for my dad’s last international assignment. I got to see my aunt, late uncle, and cousin that lived there a lot. When we left in 1992, I did not know if I would ever get back there! It is such a beautiful place to visit! When I graduated High School in 2000, I was afforded the opportunity by my Aunt who paid for my ticket to come back for a visit as a small portion of my graduation gift. Beautiful mountains, majestic waterfalls, amazing landscape, and the list goes on! I wish to save the money up and be able to take my wife there someday.

My last trip was back in 2006, while in Bible College. I went on a Spring Break missions trip to Poland and got to work with some amazing kids! It was my first, and so far, my only missions trip. I hope to be able to take some time and do some more missions trips and give back to the world!

These are the current list of places that I have been. Becoming a travel agent can afford me and my wife, and even our families, to be able to travel and take those bucket list trips. As a start, my wife, Stephanie has got into Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. She has a bucket list to go to all of the restaurants on the list, and the list keeps growing as Guy Fieri goes to new places. My love for travel and my wife’s bucket list coincide with one another, which gives us an incentive to save up for trips to different places. My bucket list is to go to every state in the USA, Dubai, take my wife to Italy, and those are just some places on the list…the list is endless! I want to be able to travel around the world!

Thank you for going on this journey of life and hope this sparks something in you to want to travel more and let your family see the world, or even just see more of the country you live in!

If you want to know more about how you can travel the world for less, please contact me at goldenopportunities@yahoo.com or go to evotravelagent.com/goldenopportunities to fill out an inquiry form. Why I became a Travel Agent

Good evening all! People wonder if travel agents are still around. You used to see at least one brick and mortar building for a travel agency on Main Street in any town that had one. In recent years, you are seeing less and less of these brick and mortar.

Really, anyone that is coach-able, as well as determined to own their own business can become a travel agent and not need as much money as it takes to have a brick and mortar location.

Why did I decide to become a Travel Agent, you may ask? It is simple. Everyone travels, some more than others. I have always planned all of my trips, going through many search engines to find the right itinerary for my set budget at the time. I also did research for what to do in the location(s) I was traveling to. I love the research phase, as well as helping people by taking the stress off of others and making sure that the clients are taken care of and they can do nothing but have fun on their vacation.

What people do not realize is that whether you book a trip yourself or through a travel agent, you are still paying the commission because it is embedded into the price. About 4 years ago, a friend of mine I went to Middle School and Freshmen year of High School approached me with an opportunity to become a travel agent. I was skeptical about it because most home-based businesses are great when you look at it, then turn into scams in the end. I did copious amounts of research, both on the company, as well as the financial and looking at budget to make sure I could make the initial investment, as well as the monthly overhead. 3 years later, I took the plunge. I decided I was ready to become a travel agent, get paid the commission for the work that I was already doing.

One other reason that I wanted to become a travel agent is because like me, other people have bucket list items of different places they wish to visit. I want to be able to give them the opportunity to go where they wish to go, as I have been able to in the past and soon to be in the future.

Travel Tips

Have you ever thought about what kind of tips that you need to be aware of when getting ready to travel? Here are a few of my tips that have helped me out…

  1. If you are traveling internationally, make sure that you have 6 months or more of validity when you return from your travels. If you do not have the 6 months of validity, you may not be able to cross back into the United States. If you need to apply for your very first passport, or you need to renew your passport, you can go to https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports.html/passport_1738.html and fill out the application online. You will need to furnish a passport photo, which the above mentioned site can guide you to places you can go to get these photos done. The website will also let you know what documentation is needed with the application.
  2. Travel Protection. No matter how long your vacation will last, or when you purchased the tickets, it is always wise to purchase protection. This helps you in case of an emergency occurs, or the vacation has to be canceled. It is not required to purchase the travel protection, but your travel agent will always give the option to do so. If you choose not to purchase the travel protection, you could lose a portion of, to all of the money invested into the vacation.
  3. Pack for the location you are traveling to, as well as for the weather that could be encountered. If you are flying, you will want to get with the airline on what the price is for checked baggage and for what weight limit for that price. If you are booking through your personal travel agent, he or she will let you know what that information. Also make sure that if you have liquids in the carry-on bag, that they adhere to TSA’s requirements or it will be thrown away. Do not wait until the last minute to pack. If you do so, you have a higher chance to forgetting something important.
  4. Make sure that you have all of the right documentation (Photo ID, Passport (will be needed by 2020 if your Driver’s License does not adhere to the Real ID Act), boarding passes.
  5. If flying domestically, make sure you arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before departure of your flight in order to give time to check in, get through the TSA process, and finding your gate. If flying internationally, you should arrive at the airport at least 3-4 hours prior to departure of your flight in order to get through all of the extra processes that may occur (getting through Customs as an example).
  6. Have fun! Enjoy the journey along the way, no matter how long it is. Once you get to your destination, get away from what life has thrown at you, enjoy the sites, the cuisine, and the local culture!
